Ingredients (240 ml cup used)

For the stuffing

  • One cup black gram split (urad dal)
  • ¼ cup Bengal gram (chana dal)
  • ½ cup coconut gratings
  • Two green chilies
  • One inch ginger
  • Eight to ten peppercorns
  • Two tsp. cumin seeds
  • Coriander
  • Salt to taste

For the outer covering

  • ½ cup rice flour
  • One tsp. plain flour
  • Salt to taste

How to make the recipe

  1. Soak both the lentils separately for about four hours. Combine rice flour, plain flour and salt and kneed into a soft pliable dough adding water to it. Cover with a cloth and keep aside.
  2. Keep aside tbsp. of soaked lentils for the stuffing, as one should get the bite of the whole lentils too.
  3. Grind the soaked lentils along with all the stuffing ingredients. Grind the mixture coarsely using little water. Add the kept aside soaked lentils to this mixture.
  4. Prepare thin poories from the pliable dough. Place the stuffing inside and cover half way. Seal the edges in the shape of a kadabu. Steam these kadubus placing them on a banana leaf in a steamer for for about ten to fifteen minutes.
  5. Serve them with chutney.
